Safety guide
Choosing the correct tires for your vehicle
Important: choose a tire with the load rating and air pressure requirements your vehicle needs. Getting this wrong can cause an accident.
Check load capacity and air pressure
The tire you pick must have the load-carrying capacity and the air pressure your vehicle requires. The recommended pressure is normally on the driver's door jamb. A tire that does not meet your vehicle's requirements may also cause the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light to behave incorrectly.
Match gross vehicle weight
The combined load capacity of all your tires (four or six) must meet or exceed the vehicle's gross vehicle weight (GVW). Find it on the door jamb or in the owner's manual.
A higher load range can be fine
A tire with a higher load rating than the original can work, for example moving from a 10-ply-rated to a 12-ply-rated tire. If you do, inflate to the pressure your vehicle requires, not to the maximum printed on the tire. Check with us to confirm the tire suits your vehicle.
Maximum pressure
You do not need to inflate to the maximum pressure on the sidewall unless you are carrying the vehicle's maximum load or the TPMS sensors need it. Use the vehicle's recommended pressure, and follow the vehicle maker's guidance for heavy loads or towing.
Never
- Never inflate a tire past the maximum pressure shown on its sidewall
- Never carry more weight than the vehicle's GVW
